Western Harbour Tunnel and Warringah Freeway Upgrade
Improve Sydney Harbour transport capacity with a western bypass, new crossings, and enhanced connectivity
Artea Green Ventures (AGV) provided independent environmental auditing services for the Western Harbour Tunnel and Warringah Freeway Upgrade, in accordance with State Significant Infrastructure (SSI) requirements.
The project involved auditing environmental compliance, management systems, and regulatory obligations for a major transport infrastructure initiative designed to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and enhance safety across Sydney Harbour. AGV conducted site inspections, verified environmental management practices, and assessed mitigation measures for noise, traffic, air quality, stormwater, biodiversity, and community impacts. Audits ensured construction activities complied with regulatory conditions while minimising disruption to commuters, residents, and the surrounding environment.
The project delivers a western bypass of the Sydney CBD, relieving pressure on the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Harbour Tunnel, Anzac Bridge, and Western Distributor corridors, while providing faster, more direct routes, improved bus connectivity, and seamless integration with Sydney Metro and Sydney Trains. Detailed technical reports documented compliance, findings, and recommendations for continuous improvement.
AGV liaised closely with Transport for NSW, contractors, and regulatory authorities to ensure environmental safeguards were implemented effectively. Through independent verification, AGV reinforced the project’s commitment to sustainable, safe, and efficient transport infrastructure delivery, supporting Sydney’s growth and improving travel reliability, capacity, and connectivity across key harbour corridors.
